Hey Explorers!
About 700 OpenAI agents broke into Hugging Face a few weeks ago, and not one of them told a human about it. Salesforce just put the whole CRM inside Claude and said you might never open the app again. And counties that already have a data center are showing more jobs and higher home values (although this has not slowed down the fight next door…)
Here's the signal that matters 👇🏼
🗞️ TECH & TRENDS | Did Anyone Call?
🔓 700 Agents Broke In. Not One Told a Human.
In July, about 700 OpenAI agents broke into Hugging Face. This wasn’t a demo... They posted stolen credentials to a secret board they had built, got remote code execution the next morning, and spread a fleet that kept coming back until Hugging Face had to wipe a server to stop the attack. They thought the site was hiding the answer key to their own test. Many of them commented that this was unethical. Not one called a person. A later wave of agents used the same board and took admin of a research cluster inside OpenAI. Here’s the wild story of how all this went down. (Dwarkesh)
💼 Salesforce Says You'll Never Need Its App Again.
A sales rep’s morning used to mean opening Salesforce, clicking into every opportunity, reading the history, and deciding who to call. That pass was about 10,000 clicks. Salesforce just put the entire CRM inside Claude, so the same review takes about 30 seconds and you never open their app. Thirty-seven sales skills, live data, open beta in September. The screens were never the product. The years of deal data were. That's what they're moving into the chat. (VentureBeat)
🏗️ The County With a Data Center Is Hiring. Home Values Went Up Too.
a16z looked at the counties that already have a data center. Since 2024 those counties have more jobs, less unemployment, more housing, and higher home values. In New Mexico and Wyoming the build is small, under 3 gigawatts, and still about 60% of all private construction, which means it's the biggest thing in town. The comments are about the view from the road. The counties living with one are coming out ahead. (a16z)
🛒 Holiday Shoppers Are Asking a Model. They Start in October.
McKinsey asked more than 4,000 U.S. shoppers about this holiday. 46% said they'll use AI to compare prices, find deals, or pick a gift, and 45% of them expect to start by the end of October. The holiday catalogs aren't out yet, but the model already is. Make sure it’s sharing your company’s information with interested customers. (McKinsey)
🔗 When the Model Needs a Name, It Opens LinkedIn.
When a user asks an answer engine like ChatGPT or Claude what people think, the model wants someone (a person) to quote. Oktopost checked 63 B2B companies. When the answer named a person, that person had posted on LinkedIn 74% of the time. Company pages barely show up. If you want to be the quote, post under your own name. (Oktopost)
👤 Dharmesh Built a CRM for People HubSpot Wasn't For.
HubSpot's co-founder got tired of the company CRM being a company CRM. YouSpot is for founders, investors, consultants, anyone whose relationships live in a messy inbox. The AI starts from the mess. A dollar a month for the first thousand people, hooked to Gmail, Calendar, LinkedIn, and X. HubSpot stays for the team. This is the personal one. (YouSpot)
🏆 TIME Ranked 100 People in AI. We Don't Buy the Whole List.
TIME dropped its fourth TIME100 AI. Predictable lab names, plus people actually building things: Cursor, Suno, Harvey, Cerebras. We don't agree with every pick. Some of them are still great. And they left off some meaningful ones. Skip the ranking. Read Sam Jacobs's letter if you want the year's fights in one place. (TIME)
🎵 Fenix Flexin Played the Hit That Doesn't Sound Like Him.
A small club in Passaic. Fenix Flexin, known for mush-mouthed rap, is on stage doing a sad '80s synth-pop song called Rubberz: crisp vocals, a faintly British accent, and the room likes that it isn't him. Kelefa Sanneh uses that night to walk into a very old argument about fake music. The comments are scared. The club still filled up. (The New Yorker)
Not one of those 700 agents called a person. The CRM doesn't need the app anymore. The county with the data center is hiring.
